About James:
James grew up in Reigate, and went to Reigate Grammar School. As a child James’ mother sustained and was admitted to hospital with severe back pain after lifting, an extremely debilitating and painful condition that affected the nerves leaving the spine in the lower back. At the time the current prescription of care was 6-12 weeks maybe more, bed rest. That is when an Osteopath was recommended. Within a few weeks James’ mothers recovery was remarkable.
Over the years a number of Osteopaths helped James’ family, his father with a chronic shoulder injury, his sister with pregnancy back pain and James himself with a number of rugby injuries!
It was this close relationship with the family Osteopath that led to James taking work experience with them and inspired him to get into Osteopathy and Massage.
James trained in Sports Massage therapy at St Mary’s College, Twickenham, one of the UK’s leading universities in sports and exercise injury rehabilitation education, where he gained a high level diploma in Sports massage therapy.
James has been massaging for a number of years and during this time achieved a professional qualification as a Registered Osteopath, a specialist in treating muscles, joints and ligaments. Osteopathy is one of the most highly renowned health professions in the U.K. today.
As part of his degree in Osteopathic Medicine, James studied clinical skills, Osteopathic techiniques such as manipulation, mobilisation and stretching. In addition to these, clinical massage and various other myo-fascial techniques were taught, this further reinforced James’ skills in Sports Massage therapy. Over 4 years Osteopaths study the human body continuously, gaining an extremely detailed knowledge of anatomy and the human body. Osteopaths develop highly sensitive palpation skills (sense of touch) that enables them to isolate the different muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments of the body delivering very focused treatments of the body.
James is an exceptionally qualified practitioner and is passionate about the positive effects that sports massage and osteopathy have. James says, “I think it is a shame to limit yourself to just one skill, massage was my introduction to start my career in complimentary healthcare, so I hope I can give something back to the profession by continuing to offer the best treatments I possibly can with Osteopathy and Sports Massage.”
Also as an adjunct to Osteopathy, James utilises medical acupuncture as a useful measure to treat muscular and other sports injuries.
James is the only practitioner in the area to offer this dual qualification and works fulltime as a clinician treating patients on a daily basis, having had to complete over a 1000 hours of expert training, you can rest assured you are in professional and safe hands.
Since qualifying as an osteopath, James has worked in busy clinics in London and the south east before setting up in his own practice in his home town of Reigate.
Having taken ‘early retirement’ from Rugby, James still follows the sport, but prefers to treat the injured players, not be one of them! His main interests in exercise are running and cycling.
